Aging & Kinship Care Gathering – Feedback

posted in: Events, Our Stories

In June 2023, we hosted our second province-wide gathering in Kamloops BC.

Here is some feedback from those who attended:

“I am so grateful for the opportunity to come again and hope there is going to be another one. It definitely did not disappoint, there is always something to learn and an AHA moment. And especially inspired by the new direction of the Ministry, that has definitely wowed me big time and who they chose that’s another Wow”  (At this point Catherine spoke up and told the speaker that Fairness BoD chose her).  The new direction and the amazing drive, let’s go for this, let’s go for that and it gives us hope and gives me hope and renewed energy every time I come.  It gives you this amazing, loving group of friends who are ready and willing to share everything they went through, so I can go okay there is another rock to hang onto, another way to elevate myself and the little one in my care. I am looking forward to next year and whatever I can do to promote it I most certainly will. Thank you, guys, from the bottom of my heart.”

“It’s been good to see the group as a whole, my first time to it. I didn’t know anything about the group my wife signed me up. It’s been an awesome weekend and I have learned a lot.  I thank all of the people who have all the time to put this together.”

“I am new to this but wanted to come to your gathering and learn more.”

“It’s a good environment and so welcoming, definitely looking forward to coming back next year.”

“We have been through all of this and as I mentioned we have come out the other end and have raised our grandson, so we are actually not raising any children now. I find these meetings so inspiring and am definitely going home with my emotions cup overflowing and I appreciate all the work that went into this. The facilities were wonderful and think you guys did a great job.  The feeling of camaraderie, this group is so wonderful.”

“I really enjoyed the weekend and really enjoyed meeting all of you and especially sharing our stories.  I hope to be able to do this again. Thank you for coming to Kamloops and it was an awesome weekend.”

“It would be nice to have a kid’s camp so that they can share with other children.  To have a parallel conference and have the families together.  It was so professional and organized.”

“I appreciate everyone sharing their stories.  There is so much wisdom around this room and am so surprised at how much we learn from each other. When I started this process I was unable to hear anyone else’s stories as I was so focused on my own I didn’t have the emotions to process.  But now that I am through the process I am able to contribute more to the organization.”

“There is never enough time to cover important topics: Indigenous peoples and the Ministry.”
